GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER

Good Friday

A day of sorrow, penance and fasting, Good Friday was observed in commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The ward-wise adoration began at 7.30 a.m. with 2-3 wards participating in the adoration for half-an-hour each, which continued till 10.30 a.m. At 11.00 a.m. the Faithful of the parish gathered at the church for the Way of the Cross, which was led by the members of Altar Servers, YCS and AYM. The hour-long devotion brought vivid reflections of the fourteen Stations of the Cross.

In the evening, the ceremony commenced at 6.00 p.m. with Rev. Fr Anthony George Pinto, Professor of Jeppu Seminary as the guest priest. As part of the ceremony, the traditional prayers were offered for different categories of people. This was followed by kissing the cross. The ceremony concluded with receiving the Holy Communion and the faithful left for their home in peace.

Easter Vigil

Easter vigil is the last day of the Paschal Triduum which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day of his crucifixion at Calvary. Pascha signifies the end of 40-day period of fasting, prayer and penance that began on Ash Wednesday.

The Paschal celebrations commenced at 7.00 p.m. with the blessing of fire. Water, which signifies life, was also blessed during the mass. The mass was concelebrated by Fr Roshan D’Cunha, Diocesan Director, YCS/YSM; Rev. Fr William Menezes and Rev. Fr Gerald Pinto. The liturgy was led by the select parishioners. After the mass, the parishioners exchanged greetings of Easter.

After the Holy Eucharist, to entertain the parishioners the members of Young Catholic Students presented a Flash Mob. The Angelore unit of Catholic Sabha conducted Housie-Housie games. After the entertainment, the parishioners left for their homes with the peace of the Risen Christ.
