Catholic Sabha is the only lay association of the Diocese. It is a registered body affiliated to All India Catholic Union.
In the year 1979, when the Tyagi Bill was passed in the Indian Parliament against religious conversions, Catholics across the country joined hands in protest. As a consequence, to safeguard the rights of Catholics, Catholic Sabha was established on 29th April 1979.
In the past 45 years, Catholic Sabha, with the joint participation of laity and clergy, has strived to protect the rights of Catholics as and when the need arose. Presently, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh® has active units in 110 parishes of the Diocese, with approximately 18,000 members.
The Angelore unit of Catholic Sabha was established on 23rd July 2000 with 36 members, having Rev. Fr J. B. D’ Souza as Spiritual Director, Mr. Daya Victor Lobo as Founder President and Mrs. Philomena Tauro as Founding Secretary. In the past 24 years the Unit has conducted numerous programmes for the welfare of the parishioners and the Catholic community at large.
