The Paschal Triduum begins with the observance of Maundy Thursday. It is the day on which Jesus Christ instituted the sacrament of Eucharist during Last Supper. As the priest washes the feet of the disciples, the Faithful sing “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34) (Latin: Mandatum novum do vobis).
The Faithful of Angelore observed Maundy Thursday on 28th March 2024. The Eucharistic celebration began at 6.30 p.m. Mr. Paul Rodrigues, Vice President of the PPC led the procession. Rev. Fr William Menezes, Parish Priest and Rev. Fr Gerald Pinto, Socius Priest concelebrated the Eucharist. The members of different parish associations led the liturgy. To commemorate the humility of Jesus Christ shown by washing the feet of his disciples, Rev. Fr Gerald Pinto washed the feet of the chosen disciples.
It is customary to place the consecrated communion hosts in the Altar of Repose after the Eucharistic celebrations of Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday. After the mass, the holy Eucharist was taken to the Altar of Repose where the Faithful partook in the adoration of the Holy Eucharist till midnight.
