The Angelore Unit of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh ® in association with the Youth Commission and Laity Commission of the Parish organised a leadership workshop for the youth on 26 July 2026. The topics were: compèring, political involvement, civil services and government jobs.
Mr. Manu Bantwal (emcee), Mr. Denis D’Silva (political leader), Mr. Suresh M. S. (Founder, Sarvajna IAS Academy) and Mrs. Juliet Fernandes (retired government employee) were the resource persons.
The workshop began at 9.00 am. Mr. Paul Rodrigues, President of Catholic Sabha, welcomed the gathering. Parish Priest and President of the programme, Rev. Fr Fredrick Monetiro inaugurated the workshop by unveiling the scroll of the programme. In his presidential address, the Parish Priest called upon the youth to sharpen their skills and maintain the honour of the Catholic community by compèring programmes in the ward and parish, increase political involvement and strive for the welfare of the society by involving themselves in social service.

Fr Avil Santhmayor, Assistant Parish Priest; Mr. Roshan Patrao, Vice President of the PPC; Ms. Renita Menezes, Secretary of the PPC; Mrs. Jacintha Pinto, Coordinator of Parish Pastoral Commissions; Mr. Neilesh Rasquinha, Convenor of the workshop; resource persons; Mr. Anup Veigas, Convener of Youth Commission and Mr. Robin Vas, Convenor of Laity Commission were present on the dais.
Speaking on emceeing, Mr. Manu Bantwal described the qualities of a true compère: good preparation; learning new things without complacency; using fluent language; speaking in mother tongue; patience, humility and ability to handle adverse situations during programmes; speaking cordially to everyone; speaking less; dressing to the occasion; respecting the guests and not boasting about oneself. Complementary to the above, he called upon the youth to use platforms like ward meetings and parish events to sharpen their skill as compère.
Speaking on government service, Mr. Suresh M. S. said that the youth should stand on their feet and lay a strong foundation to their future and have clear idea about what they want to be in life while they are in 10th standard. He also told the gathering that they should evaluate how much time and money it takes to prepare and answer public service exams and how much they fetch. He suggested that those planning to enter civil service should start preparation when they are in 8th standard. He also advised the youth not to gun for one single government job, but to write exams of as many government jobs as possible and join the one they get. He stressed the importance of reading newspapers and books on diverse topics to gain knowledge that would help them answer the exams effortlessly.
Mrs. Juliet Fernandes, a retired government employee, shared her experience and the satisfaction she derived from her job with the youth. She also provided information on jobs available in the Police Department, Survey Department, Village Accountant, MESCOM and KSRTC. She too urged the youth not to eye only the top level jobs, but to enter the government service at lower levels and then climb to higher posts by answering relevant examinations. She expressed the joy she derived from helping the poor and needy as government employee.
Mr. Denis D’Silva, a well known political leader, called upon the youth to involve themselves in the political sphere as participation of Catholics in this field is minimal currently. He highlighted that the leadership quality should bloom from within a person and parish is the right platform to foster it. He said politics is a thankless field and to succeed one has to work relentlessly. He told the youth to be open to the world around them so that they are aware of the happenings around them, which will help them in being recognised in the world of politics. He also called the parents to encourage their children to participate in politics and social issues.
Ninety-nine children and youth from 10th standard up to 35 years along with their parents participated in the workshop. Mr. Neilesh Rasquinha tendered the vote of thanks. Mr. Noel Pinto compèred the programme.
