The Independence Day and Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary were celebrated on 15th August 2026 with great enthusiasm and participation by the parish community. The celebration commenced with the Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m., with AYM leading the liturgy.
The flag hoisting ceremony followed the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The programme was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr Praveen D’Souza, ICYM Diocesan Director as the Chief Guest. Parish Priest Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, presided over the programme. Also present were Rev. Fr Avil Santhmayor, Assistant Parish Priest; Mr. Roshan Patrao, Vice President of the Parish Council; and Ms. Renita Menezes, Secretary of the Parish Council, along with parishioners and members of AYM.
Mr. Jeethan D’Souza, President of AYM, who warmly welcomed the gathering and introduced the dignitaries. Rev. Fr Praveen D’Souza hoisted the national flag and the gathering sang the national anthem.
Rev. Fr Praveen D’Souza, then addressed the gathering. In his speech, he spoke about the significance of Independence Day and the importance of respecting and upholding the values represented by the national flag. He also appreciated the active participation of the youth in society and commended the AYM for organising the programme in a well-planned and meaningful manner.
The programme continued with a patriotic song by the choir, which added meaning to the celebration, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary of AYM, Ms. Olinca Lobo.
The event concluded with the distribution of sweets to the gathering. The programme was conducted successfully and served as a meaningful occasion to celebrate the nation’s independence while honouring the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
