FAREWELL TO MR. JOSEPH VAS

The success of every event depends on the persons working at the background. Eucharistic celebration is not exception as the role of the sacristan is important in it. Mr. Joseph Vas, the sacristan of Angelore parish was given an emotional farewell on 29th January 2023 after the 7.30 a.m. mass during a brief farewell programme.

Mr. Joseph Vas, fondly known to parishioners as ‘ವಾಸಾಮ್’ has served his parish as sacristan for more than two decades. Most of the parishioners have grown up seeing Mr. Vas inside and outside the church premises. A jovial person by nature, Mr. Vas knew children and adults alike by name and would greet them firsthand with a hearty smile.

Rain or shine, he would reach the church early in the morning pedalling his bicycle to prepare for the early morning mass. In the evening, he would depart in his ubiquitous bicycle after locking the side gate.

Thanks to the melodious voice God has given him, he helped us participate in the Eucharistic celebration with devotion. He led many a devotion during his tenure as sacristan. In between he had also served as Gurkar and representative of his ward.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Fr. William Menezes, Parish Priest, praised him for his meticulous work and punctuality, and thanked him for the service rendered to the parish. He honoured him with a shawl. Mr. Paul Rodirgues, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council presented the bouquet, while Mrs. Lolina D’Souza, Secretary of the PPC presented the memento.

Mr. Lancy Tauro, the new sacristan, was also welcomed with a bouquet of flowers.

The Angelore parish will always remember the selfless service rendered by Mr. Joseph Vas and wishes him good health and happiness in the days to come.
