Digital Wellbeing Programme

With rising concerns over digital addiction and online risks, Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, organized a ‘Digital Wellbeing Programme’ on Sunday, July 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall. The initiative was jointly spearheaded by the Commission for Youth, Commission for Media, and Commission for Education, drawing children, youth, and parents from across the parish.

The programme aimed to equip families with practical tools to navigate the digital world without compromising mental health, relationships, or spiritual growth. The collaboration of three commissions underscored the Church’s holistic approach to formation in the 21st century.

The dignitaries present on stage were: Fr Frederick Monteiro, Parish Priest; Fr Anil Ivan Fernandes, Resource Person; Mr Roshan Patrao, Vice President, PPC; Ms Renita Menezes, Secretary, PPC; Mrs Jacintha Pinto, Coordinator of Commissions; Mr Quintus, Commission for Media; Mrs Tressy D’Costa, Commission for Education; and Mr Anup Denzil Veigas, Commission for Youth

The programme began with a prayer song by the YCS members. Mr Anup Denzil Veigas extended the welcome and introduced the resource person. In his presidential address, Fr Frederick Monteiro stressed, “The Church cannot stay silent while screens raise our children. We must teach them to use technology as a tool, not a master.”

Fr Anil Ivan Fernandes led the main session, addressing three core areas: Balancing Screen Time – Setting family media plans and ‘no-device zones’; Online Safety – Protecting children from cyberbullying, addiction, and harmful content; and Digital Faith Formation – Using apps, podcasts, and online resources for prayer and catechesis

Parents were encouraged to model healthy digital habits and to create regular ‘tech-free family time’. Mrs Tressy D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks.

Participants appreciated the actionable tips. Many parents noted the need to replace passive scrolling with purposeful engagement. The commissions announced follow-up workshops for youth on creating faith-based content and for parents on parental control tools.

The ‘Digital Wellbeing Programme’ forms part of Guardian Angel Church’s ongoing mission to respond to contemporary pastoral challenges. By bringing together youth, media, and education ministries, the parish seeks to ensure that technology serves human dignity and growth in faith.

The event was compèred by Mr Prinston Rodrigues.
