AYM Angelore honours elders and religious sisters with Commission for Family & YCS
Pope Leo XIV's message for the sixth World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly in 2026 emphasizes the theme “I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). Inspired by this message, AYM Angelore, in collaboration with the Commission for Family and YCS Angelore Unit, organized a heartfelt programme at Casa Gaia Convent on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The event was held to honour the elderly and express gratitude to the religious sisters for their selfless service to the parish.
Dignitaries Present
The programme was graced by Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, Parish Priest, Guardian Angel Church; Rev. Fr Avil Santhmayor, Assistant Parish Priest; Br Praveen Francis; Mrs Jacintha Pinto, Coordinator, Parish Pastoral Commissions; Ms Sweedal Pais, Animator, YCS Angelore Unit; along with the President, Secretary and members of AYM and YCS, Angelore Unit.
Mrs Leena D'Souza, Convener of the Commission for Family, welcomed the gathering. The prayer was led by Mrs Hilda Lobo, Member of the Commission for Family.
The entire programme was compered by Mr Jeethan D'Souza, President of AYM, Angelore Unit.
Message to the Youth
In his address, Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro appreciated the dedicated efforts of AYM and YCS members. He remarked that when young people come together with a spirit of service, unity and love, they become a powerful force for building a vibrant parish and inspiring the entire community. He encouraged the youth to continue serving with enthusiasm and compassion. He also thanked the Commission for Family for organizing the event in collaboration with the parish youth groups.
AYM Highlights
AYM Angelore took an active role in making the celebration memorable: Cultural performances by AYM members including dance, action song and a skit that conveyed the value of respecting elders; Support in organizing the programme along with YCS and the Commission for Family; Fellowship with elders and participation in the presentation of gifts to all the sisters by the Commission for Family; Special celebration of Rev. Fr Avil Santhmayor's birthday.
Sr Ida Mendonca SCCG, Casa Gaia Convent, delivered the thanksgiving address. Mrs Celine Fernandes, Member of the Commission for Family, proposed the vote of thanks.
Conclusion
The event created a warm and joyful atmosphere of respect, togetherness and appreciation for the elderly and the sisters. Altogether, 40 youth and commission members were present for the programme.
For AYM Angelore, the celebration was a meaningful opportunity to live out the spirit of service and gratitude. The gathering concluded with heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed, and stood as a beautiful expression of love, respect, unity and community spirit in the parish.
