Environment Day and Vanamahotsava represent pivotal moments in our commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. These events, celebrated globally and locally, emphasize the importance of conservation and sustainable living practices.
On 23rd June 2024, AYM organized an environmental awareness talk at Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall at 8.30 am to commemorate Environment Day and Vanamahotsava. The event commenced with a warm breakfast, fostering a sense of camaraderie among attendees. Ms. Richeal Castelino, our esteemed compère, initiated proceedings with introduction, setting the tone for a day filled with knowledge-sharing and action. The programme began by seeking God's grace through a hymn sung by the members of AYM. Mr. Rayan Lobo, the president of AYM welcomed the gathering and all the esteemed guests. The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro gave a green welcome to the chief guest. A poignant moment of the event was the ceremony of planting the sapling, where the dignitaries joined hands to plant sapling symbolizing our commitment to greener future. This act underscored our collective responsibility towards environmental preservation. Mr. Paul Rodrigues, the Vice President of the PPC gave a short message about the topic being addressed followed by a message by the Parish Priest. Ms. Olinca Lobo then introduced Mr. Mark Sera (Senior Platoon Commander), who then captivated the audience with his expertise on kitchen gardening and water harvesting. Through engaging anecdotes and insightful videos from his own farm, Mr. Mark inspired us to adopt sustainable practices in our daily lives. The interactive session fostered a dialogue, with attendees posing thoughtful questions that Mr. Mark graciously addressed. The event received overwhelming support from our community, with active participation from parishioners. Their enthusiasm and commitment exemplify our shared dedication to environmental consciousness and sustainable development. Ms. Rhea, the secretary of AYM then extended her warm words of gratitude and thus the event came to a successful end.
The celebration of Environment Day and Vanamahotsava was a resounding success, thanks to the collective efforts of all involved. It not only educated and empowered attendees but also reinforced our pledge to safeguard our planet for future generations. As we reflect on this event, we are inspired to continue our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.
