AURORA 2K22

Youngsters are always brimming with energy and they need ways to channel that energy and showcase to the world their abilities. Sensing this, the Catholic Church has provided them an avenue by way of the Young Catholic Students (YCS) movement. It is an international movement founded by Cardinal Joseph Cardijn.

On Sunday, 4th December 2022, the campus of St. Aloysius Degree College was bustling with activity. The effervescent youth of the twin dioceses of Mangalore and Udupi had converged to showcase their prowess at AURORA 2K22, a fun-filled cultural programme-cum-competition.

The programme was inaugurated at the Mother Theresa Peace Park at the St. Aloysius Degree College campus at 9.00 a.m. Over 600 students from 36 YCS units across both dioceses participated in the historical event.

The programme began with a traditional dance. The inauguration was compèred by Mr. Mevan Louis, Secretary of YCS Mangalore Diocese. Mr. Stany Lobo, President, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh ® was the chief guest  and Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Principal, St. Aloysius Degree College presided over the function.

Mr Lobo shared his message about how one should be a role model for the future generations to follow. Rev. Dr Praveen Martis encouraged the youth to connect, inspire and explore their goals.

The competitions included group dance, group singing, fancy dress, reels, JAM and flower carpet making.

YCS Angelore secured the third place in group dance. The championship trophy was bagged by YCS Vittal and Nithyadhar unit were the runners up.

Fighting it out with 36 parishes is no mean feat, and yet again, YCS Angelore has made the Parish proud. The Parish Priest, Assistant Parish Priest, Animators and the entire parish congratulate them for showcasing excellent performance and thank their parents for their encouragement.
