At 4.15 pm on 17th May 2023, the premises of Guardian Angel Church were bustling with the faithful of Derebail and Angelore parishes. While the parish was eagerly awaiting its resident priest Rev. Fr Gerald Francis Pinto, for the parishioners of Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, it was an emotional moment – bidding farewell to a priest who had served them for three-and-a-half years.
Born to Mr. Santhan Pinto and Mrs. Albin D’Mello of Bolkunje parish, Rev. Fr Pinto grew up in the beautiful lush green environ, away from the bustle of the city life. He was ordained priest on 25th April 1994. In his 29 years of pastoral life, Rev. Fr Pinto served as Assistant Parish Priest, Parish Priest and Socius in six parishes across the length and breadth of Mangalore Diocese.
Rev. Fr Gerald Pinto, fondly known as Fr Jerry arrived at 4.30 pm escorted by Rev. Fr Joseph Martis, Parish Priest and Rev. Fr Kevin, Assistant Parish Priest, Derebail Church. Rev. Fr William Menezes and Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha welcomed him with a bouquet. On behalf of the parishioners, a bouquet was offered by Mr. Paul Rodrigues, Vice President and Mrs. Lolina D’Souza, Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council.
The formal prayer service was led by Rev. Fr William Menezes; Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha proclaimed the Word of God. Mr. Paul Rodrigues gave a brief glimpse of the Parish and welcomed Rev. Fr Pinto on behalf of Parish Priest, Assistant Parish Priest, and the parishioners. Addressing the faithful, Rev. Fr Gerald Pinto thanked the parishioners of Derebail for their love. Mrs. Lolina D’Souza proposed the Vote of Thanks.
