ALTAR SERVERS’ DAY

Altar servers are an integral and indispensible part of liturgy in the Catholic Church. Rain or shine, the altar servers of Angelore are always there to play their part in the liturgy.

The Altar Servers’ Day of Guardian Angel Church was celebrated on 29th October 2023, with an unparalleled sense of enthusiasm and devotion. The day commenced with a solemn Eucharistic celebration at 9:30 am, where the dedicated altar servers marched in unison to the altar and actively participated in the liturgy.  Rev. Fr Rupesh Madtha, the editor of Raknno and the former Diocesan Director of YCS/YSM concelebrated the Holy Eucharist with Rev. Fr Jerald Pinto. Fr Rupesh has a characteristic style of addressing children and youth, which not only brings smile on their face, but also builds rapport instantly. During his enlightening sermon, with his inimitable style, Fr Rupesh engaged the children with action songs, encouraging them to incorporate these melodies into their daily lives to foster a deeper connection with God and comprehend His boundless love. He emphasized the importance of adhering to God's commandments and urged the young servers to carry with them the awareness of God's unconditional love each day. Following the uplifting Mass, a delightful surprise awaited the altar servers in the form of ice cream, adding to the festive atmosphere.

In the evening, a cultural programme was organised at 5.00 pm at the Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall. The programme was presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr William Menezes. In his cordial-as-ever address, he reminded the altar servers of the extraordinary opportunity they possess to serve God intimately and keep His divine presence close to their hearts. Rev. Fr William Menezes reassured them that God's unwavering support would always be with them and encouraged them to attend Mass daily and heed God's divine plan.

The other dignitaries on the dais were Rev. Fr Jerald Pinto, Assistant Parish Priest; Mr. Paul Rodrigues,  Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Lolina D’Souza, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council; Ms. Renita Menezes, Coordinator of 21 Pastoral Commissions; Mrs. Maria D’Sa, Mrs. Jyothi Monteiro, and Mrs. Sharitha D’Silva, animators. In attendance were also Ms. Princia Pinto, the President of the Altar Servers, and Ms Anvitha Tauro, the Secretary. The celebration included the distribution of prizes to the winners of various games organized for the altar servers, adding an element of excitement and competition to the day. Following the formal programme, a captivating cultural presentation unfolded, featuring the children singing songs composed by Late Mr. Wilfy Remimbus and showcasing their talents in graceful dances. The programme reached its climax with the rendition of the song dedicated to Saint John Berchmans, the patron saint of altar servers, which resonated throughout the hall. The evening's proceedings were skilfully guided by the compères, Ms. Vibha and Ms. Vival.

The Altar Servers’ Day celebration was a jubilant event, showcasing the collective dedication and service of the altar servers while fostering a profound spiritual connection among the community.
